AI for Students

By the end of this lesson you will have a list of specific, practical ways to use AI as a student in Nigeria — for studying, for JAMB, and for building your future.

1

Use AI as your personal tutor

The most powerful thing about AI for students is that it is available 24 hours a day, it never gets frustrated with you, and it will explain the same thing 10 different ways until you understand. Use it to explain any topic you are confused about. Use it to check your understanding: "Here is my explanation of osmosis. Is it correct? What did I get wrong?" Use it to create practice questions: "Give me 10 WAEC-style questions on chemistry — organic chemistry only. After I answer each one, tell me if I am right and explain why." This is a private tutor on your phone. Use it.

2

Use AI for your career and future

Beyond school, AI can help you plan your future. Ask it: "I am 17 years old in Nigeria. I am interested in design and technology. What careers exist at the intersection of these two things? What skills should I start building now?" Ask it to help you write your first CV. Ask it to prepare you for job interviews: "Interview me for an entry-level graphic design position in a Lagos company. Ask me 5 questions and give me feedback on my answers." Most adults have never thought to use AI this way. You have the advantage of learning this now.

3

Use AI ethically

There is a right way and a wrong way to use AI as a student. The wrong way is to copy AI output directly and submit it as your own work. This is dishonest, it does not help you learn, and most teachers can detect it. The right way is to use AI as a thinking partner. Use it to understand a topic, then write about it in your own words. Use it to generate an outline, then write each section yourself. Use it to check your work after you have already done it. AI makes you a better thinker if you use it as a tool, not a shortcut.

Try This

Write a short paragraph — 5 to 8 sentences — explaining what you have learned in this AI Tools track. Do not use ChatGPT to write it. After you have written it yourself, paste it into ChatGPT and ask: 'Here is a paragraph I wrote. What is one thing I could improve about it? Do not rewrite it for me — just give me one specific suggestion.' Use the suggestion to improve your paragraph.
